Phase One: Boundary Development
The first phase was to create new boundaries for the downtown area that will enable the use of grants for improvements. The new downtown area now encompasses both sides of the streets and all properties within the downtown district, adjacent industrial parks, as well as connection with the historic village to provide a cohesive downtown area to promote economic growth.
Phase Two: Design Plan
The second phase was to create a development plan for the design of downtown including architecture design guidelines, updated streetscapes, parking, a bike/trail system, park and municipal center developments. The results of this work conducted by the DDA Board, Village of Vicksburg and the Development Committee is the Downtown Redevelopment and Design plan conducted by McKenna Associates.
Also included in this second stage is continuing the evaluation of creating a Vicksburg Historic District that will provide tax credits for those redeveloping historic structures.
Phase Three: Funding
The DDA is currently working on the next phase of the Downtown District’s development:
- Preparing grants to submit to the DNR this April and MDOT in May for the trail system.
- Identifying funding for the Liberty Lane Extension (proposed development this summer)
- Identifying funding for S. Main Streetscapes
- Identifying funding for the Parking Lot Enhancements behind the S. Main shops to the west
