Helen Kleczynski - Pastel & Watercolor Painter
Signature Member Pastel Society of America, Master Circle Pastelist International Association of Pastel Societies
“Painting helps me slow down and observe the world around me. I have become more aware of shapes, colors, and textures because I have observed them as an artist. I watched a flower opening and experienced the joy of the moment because I painted it as it opened. To study my subjects, I paint outdoors in hand-bound watercolor sketchbooks, and then use these sketches along with photographs as references for larger pastel or watercolor paintings. I prefer the dramatic lighting found at dawn, sunset or in unusual weather conditions, which brings out the extraordinary beauty of ordinary objects. Man-made forms with peeling paint, rust, intriguing textures, and strong patterns of light and shadow capture my eye."
Helen's paintings have been exhibited in regional and international exhibitions, and have received many prestigious awards. Recent awards include second place overall in the Pastel Journal 100 competition, the Silver Award at the International Association of Pastel Societies, and the French Canvas Award at the 2015 Pastel Society of America Exhibition. Look for her painting in the eighth edition of Strokes of Genius and her article on painting textures in the December 2015 issue of the Pastel Journal.
Helen teaches drawing and painting to students of all levels at the Art House on Prairies Street in Vicksburg. It is open on Wednesday afternoons or by appointment. For more information, go to www.helenkleczynski.com.
